Financial Planning

Financial Planning is the process of developing strategies to assist clients in managing their financial affairs to meet lifestyle goals.

I am sometimes asked about the distinction between a Financial Planner and a Financial Adviser.

I think that it boils down to how the question ‘what would you do if you were me?’ is answered. A Financial Adviser will very often give product specific answers as they are only dealing with certain aspects of a client’s financial needs – be it protection, investment or pension advice.

As a Financial Planner, I feel it is my duty to tell a client, in detail, exactly what I would do if I were in their shoes; step by step, issue by issue, year by year. At times maybe too much detail, but I always think it is wise to assume nothing and to do a thorough, meticulous and diligent job from the start.
